Does it ever feel like no matter how much you try to love your body, so much of this world is designed to make sure you don’t?

We’ve all heard it:

“Love the skin you’re in”

“Appreciate your body for all the beautiful things it does for you”

“Love yourself”

While these are all wonderful mantras and phrases that we all would love to live by, sometimes loving the body you’re in isn’t as simple as it might seem. Especially with impossible standards, we see in the media or societal pressures we feel.

Learning to Love Your Body

Many women experience unhappiness with their bodies throughout their lives. In fact, almost all are guaranteed to at some point.

Regardless of the changes you want to see in your body, big or small, it’s time to learn to love it.

Once and for all this time. And not just because it seems like the right thing to say out loud.

How to (Finally) Love Your Body: Actionable Steps

Truly learning to love your body is something that takes time and dedication. It is most certainly something that’s possible.

Here are some of the best tips to help you (finally) love your body.

Understand looking different won’t make you happy

There’s this idea common among many women who are uncomfortable in their bodies that once they reach their goal weight or goal look they’ll finally become happy.

The truth is, real happiness doesn’t rely on how you look. But rather, it comes from the things that bring joy into your life. Family, friends, health – these are the things that ultimately matter most when it comes to happiness.

Many also believe looking a certain way will help you be accepted by others or help them to change their opinions of you. Although there may be physical factors that play into how others treat us, breaking your back to meet the ideals of others isn’t going to make you happy. And the reality is, it probably won’t change their opinions of you either.

So, instead, focus on the things that influence your life positively.

Commit to mental changes

The biggest change you will make in successfully loving your body is a mental one.

The fact you’re even reading about how to love your body is a big step in the right direction. You are already proving your interest in fighting negativity and building positivity. So keep that mental change going!
Fight fatphobia by pushing yourself to create mental change. Learn to celebrate your body regardless of the amount of fat on it and learn to do the same with others. Reject the negative comments that pop up in your mind and replace them with kind words.

Make positive changes to your social media accounts

We’re all aware that social media has made its mark on how women of all ages feel about their bodies. Do some work to make positive changes to your social media accounts.

Unfollow those who make you feel poorly to rid your feed of negativity. Then, seek to follow those who have similar bodies to yours. Sometimes it takes relating to others who are similar to you rather than comparing to realize your own beauty.

Slow down and start to understand your body

It’s easy to have quick thoughts about what you don’t like about your body. Take a second to slow down and get to know your body and how it functions and reacts to your way of life.

You might learn what creates stress in your life and how your body reacts to it, or how the foods that you put into your body make you feel. The better you get to know and understand your body, the more empowered you will feel to love it.

Do things that make your body feel good

It might be a massage, exercise on a regular basis, or even just cozying up in bed on a cold day. When you do positive things for your body, your brain begins to associate those things with positive feelings.

The more positive feelings you have towards your body, the closer you’ll be to loving it.

Work with a professional

There are many things you can do on your own to get started on the path towards loving your body. But sometimes getting help from a professional is what can end up giving you the motivation you need.

There is nothing wrong with needing help and it may be the next step in understanding why you should love your body on a more spiritual level.
